Planning & Infrastructure Bill: Our briefing for Report stage
The Government’s flagship Planning and Infrastructure Bill reaches its final stages in the House of Commons on Monday 9 and Tuesday 10 June. This is the final chance to make changes to the Bill before it heads to the House of Lords, which will have their first debate on the Bill on 25 June.
During the line by line scrutiny of the Bill during its commitee stage, ministers promised to reflect and consider on a range of issues. But no amendments have yet been tabled by the Government on these issues. So we’re backing amendments from Labour backbenchers and opposition parties to try and improve the Bill to do three things:
- Ensure important protections for nature and heritage continue
- Provide clarity on how the different national, departmental, sub-regional and local plans will be integrated to tackle the big challenges of our time including housing, climate change, health and nature
- Ensure effective democratic oversight, community consultation and engagement and the right to be heard in plan development and development decisions
